Terma, Ørsted, and Danish Ministry of Defence hosted 3rd Symbiosis Regional Workshop on Offshore Renewable Energy for Defense for the Baltic Sea
Terma, Ørsted, and the Danish Ministry of Defence have joined forces to address the intersection of renewable energy and defense at the 3rd Symbiosis Regional Workshop, held in Copenhagen on 14-15 January, 2025.
The workshop, organized under the European Defence Agency’s Symbiosis project, brought together key stakeholders from Europe and industry to explore practical solutions for balancing offshore wind energy development with the operational needs of defense systems in the Baltic Sea.
Henriette Hallberg Thygesen, CEO of Terma A/S, opened the event by stating:
"Energy policy has become security policy. The growth of offshore wind in the Baltic Sea mirrors the region's geopolitical importance, demanding cooperation across borders, industries, and governments to ensure a resilient and secure future."
Participants engaged in expert-led discussions and explored innovative technologies at interactive showcases hosted by Terma and Ørsted.
Terma highlighted its state-of-the-art maritime security systems, while Ørsted showcased advancements in offshore wind energy development.
The workshop marks a significant step forward in the Symbiosis project, funded by Horizon Europe, fostering collaboration to ensure energy and security coexist successfully.
Anne Mette Mosekjær Søndergaard, Head of Regulatory & Public Affairs Denmark, Ørsted, says:
“As an offshore wind developer, cooperating and coexisting with defense interests is a natural part of our work. For years we have worked closely with defense forces across various countries in the Baltic Sea region gaining valuable experience. We are honored to facilitate these vital transnational discussions, as dialogue is crucial for the future expansion of renewable energy and for ensuring regional energy security and independence.”
