Terma Secures New Contract with SWISSto12
Terma signs new contract with SWISSto12 to deliver baseline SCOEs to HummingSat, the first small geostationary satellite for telecommunication to be developed under a contract between ESA and SWISSto12
Terma Space is proud to announce a new partnership with the Swiss aerospace and telecommunications company, SWISSto12. The small yet powerful satellite is to be placed in geostationary orbit, approximately 36,000 kilometers from Earth, with the purpose of streaming data and broadcasting television. The project is a collaboration between ESA and SWISSto12 and has its first satellite launch planned for 2026.
As part of the HummingSat Project, Terma will deliver three Power SCOE systems and one FLATSAT SCOE based on Terma’s UniverSAS product, alongside one Stand-Alone Battery Conditioning Equipment (BCE), that is able to serve to batteries at the same time. In addition, Terma supplies the project with one mechanical simulator SCOE based on our TSC-product and four check-out systems (CCS) based on our CCS5 product.
“We are excited and honored to be part of the HummingSat project and contribute to SWISSto12’s our AIT infrastructure. Partnering with SWISSto12 on this groundbreaking initiative highlights our dedication to enabling innovative space technologies and advancing European telecommunications,” says Günther Lackner, Senior Vice President of Terma Space.
Streamlining Satellites with Terma’s Chameleon SCOE
The delivered Flatsat, Power and Launch SCOE systems are based on Terma’s ProUST UniverSAS product that has the characteristics of a “chameleon SCOE,” which is an all-in-one solution for various functionalities of a Power SCOE. Terma’s products thereby allow SWISSto12 to use a single small SCOE instead of several large traditional ones, ensuring minimal costs and additional space in the cleanroom.
Reacting to the new contract, Mike Kaliski, CTO of HummingSat, commented: “We are excited to partner with Terma and work closely together to ensure the success of this groundbreaking satellite, driving innovation and expanding the horizons of space connectivity.”
This partnership underscores the shared commitment of SWISSto12, ESA, and Terma to push the boundaries of satellite technology, paving the way for innovative solutions in telecommunications and a new era of European space exploration.
