Terma showcases SCANTER radar systems at DEFEXPO 2018

At this year’s DEFEXPO in Chennai, India, Terma will be showcasing its SCANTER 6002, the selected Surface Surveillance Radar for Indian Navy.

Chennai, India - In partnership with Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL), India as prime contractor, Terma has been awarded a contract to execute Indian Navy’s Surface Surveillance Radar (SSR) project for 31 radars of the SCANTER 6002 type.

The SSR program is the first procurement by MoD under the “Buy and Make (Indian)” category of the Defense Procurement Procedure.

“We are extremely proud to be part of the first successful “Buy & Make (Indian)” contract awarded by Indian Ministry of Defence. The project is progressing well and we aim to replicate this model for other radar and naval products in India and elsewhere in the region”, says Vice President & General Manager Anupam Narain Mathur, Terma Asia Pacific.

This prestigious project involves delivery, installation, and commissioning of radar systems on Indian Navy vessels as well as delivery of simulators, establishment of depot level facilities, and integrated logistics support with deliveries spread over 10 years. The radar is being manufactured in India with Transfer of Technology from Terma, Denmark.

Besides the SSR program a total of 46 SCANTER 2001 radars from Terma are operational as coastal surveillance radars along the Indian coast. Terma has also supplied surface movement radars to four major Indian airports in Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai serving a total estimated number of passengers of approx. 137 million people per year.
