Terma Secures Major Order of Surface Movement Radars for Indian Airports

Danish manufacturer of advanced radar solutions, Terma, is set to provide Surface Movement Radars (SMR) for four major Indian airports. The order adds to Terma’s extensive SMR presence in India, already comprising eight radars in four major airports.

Global leader in advanced radar solutions, Terma, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a significant order for Surface Movement Radars (SMR) by system integrator; Indra Sistemas. The SCANTER 5502 SMRs will be installed in four major Indian airports: Bengaluru, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Hyderabad.

Terma's SMR involvement in India dates back to the installation of eight SMRs in four major airports – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai – between 2008 and 2010, and the order marks a pivotal moment for Terma's presence in India, further enhancing our standing in the region as a major provider of state-of-the-art radar technology. The SCANTER 5502, renowned for its reliable detection in all weather conditions, will play a crucial role in bolstering the operational capabilities of these key Indian airports.

"We are excited to partner with Indra Sistemas on the deployment of our SCANTER 5502 Radars in four major Indian airports. This underscores Terma's commitment to advancing aviation technology in India, ensuring safety, and contributing to the nation's dynamic aviation sector." says M Asif Makandar, Head of Indian Office at Terma India.

In addition to the well-known SMR services already present in India, Terma also offers Enhanced SMR (eSMR) which represents a pivotal advancement in surveillance technology, enabling the integration of sophisticated Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems (A-SMGCS). Through the utilization of software-defined radar systems and advancements in digital signal processing, eSMR enhances the processing capacity for surveillance inputs. This augmentation results in a notable improvement in situational awareness capabilities which help overcome the transition challenge for aircraft’s final approach.

With India's rapid economic growth and large aviation sector, the demand for airport SMRs is set to rise significantly. Terma is proud to remain at the forefront of meeting these demands, providing cutting-edge solutions that contribute to the safe and efficient operation of Indian airports.
